Summary

SUMMARY

The GIS Analyst III serves as the project coordinator and senior technical resource for DRIS geospatial modernization efforts. This role blends advanced GIS expertise with coordination responsibilities, helping guide workflows, support parcel fabric development, and ensure that mapping products meet program and stakeholder needs. The analyst develops dashboards, scripts, templates, and process documentation while supporting DRIS leadership, Tribal initiatives, and cross-agency collaborations.

 

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate project tasks across the GIS team and act as the primary liaison between contractor management and the federal COR.
  • Lead development of geospatial dashboards, web applications, and visualization tools that support DRIS and OTS leadership.
  • Develop scripts and automation tools to strengthen geospatial workflows and parcel fabric processes.
  • Apply cartographic and spatial analysis techniques to produce mapping products tailored to stakeholder needs.
  • Perform mapping of legal land descriptions for parcels, tracts, rights-of-way, leases, and other encumbrances from TAAMS.
  • Support the migration of Land Area Code (LAC) data into the ESRI Enterprise Parcel Fabric and help refine its workflow.
  • Establish standardized templates for mapping products and applications to promote consistency and usability.
  • Document processes and create SOPs for workflows lacking written guidance.
  • Provide input for project status updates and support work planning as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with federal GIS specialists, analysts, and program staff on cross-functional mapping initiatives.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of legal land descriptions, rights-of-way, and lease records.
  • Advanced proficiency with ESRI technologies, including ArcGIS Pro, Enterprise, and Parcel Fabric.
  • Experience developing dashboards, scripts, and automated workflows.
  • Ability to coordinate project activities and communicate clearly with both technical and program stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of geospatial data standards and metadata requirements, including BIA-compliant metadata.
  • Demonstrated ability to document workflows and establish repeatable processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Substantial experience with parcel mapping, trust land datasets, parcel fabric, and geospatial workflow development.
  • Prior experience coordinating technical work or serving in a lead/SME capacity is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work may be performed remotely or at the DRIS office in Lakewood, CO. Remote employees are supplied with required IT equipment. This role works closely with federal and contractor GIS specialists and must follow applicable security, data protection, and safety policies.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Routine office and computer based work.

 

CLEARANCE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal government background check and clearance.

Required to complete FISSA (Federal Information Systems Security Awareness) training and annual recertification.
